AJ's Learning Story
In the sandpit today, I observed AJ engaged in play with Chris, Anna, and Nathaniel. They were taking turns with a truck and sharing other toys. However, there was a moment when AJ became upset when things didn’t go his way. He was clearly trying to negotiate sharing but showed some frustration when he didn't get to use the truck as he wanted to.
This moment reveals that AJ is developing his social skills and learning to navigate relationships with peers. He demonstrated an ability to share toys, which indicates understanding and willingness to cooperate. At the same time, his reaction to frustration suggests he is still developing strategies to cope with challenges in play. This duality shows his progress in social engagement and emotional regulation.
To support AJ in this area, I plan to encourage more cooperative games that allow him to practice sharing and taking turns. I will also talk to him about how to express his feelings when things don’t go as planned. After this activity, I will invite him to rest with a quiet time, helping him recharge and reflect on his play experiences.
